Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Iran President-elect Ebrahim Raisi on his victory in the recent election. He was declared the winner on June 19 in an election fought by hardline candidates handpicked by the country's clerical leadership. Raisi, who has been described as an 'ultraconservative', is considered close to Iran's 'Supreme Leader' Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
