Most medal winners from poor backgrounds

The bulk of Indian players who have won medals in the Games are from impoverished far flung villages. They have risen from poor backgrounds with little help to scale dizzying heights. Let's take a look at a few of them. Archer Deepika Kumari's father is an Auto rickshaw driver and her mother is a nurse in a government hospital. She had to practice with bows and arrows since she did not have the money to buy equipment.Long jump silver medallist Prajusha Maliakkal's father is a cook and currently unemployed and her mother does not earn.Kavita Raut the surprise bronze medalist in the 10,000m race says she took up running and not any other sport because she could run barefoot.
