Former Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Thursday lodged a formal complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against party MP and chief whip Kalyan Banerjee, alleging that he had “repeatedly verbally abused” her inside Parliament. In her letter to the Speaker, Dastidar claimed the alleged behaviour reflected “misogyny” towards women MPs and said such conduct must be punished. Reacting to the allegations, Kalyan Banerjee questioned the timing and intent behind the complaint. He said any incident on the floor of the House should be immediately reported to the Speaker and suggested there may be a motive behind the accusations.
