Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic Party's nomination for the US vice-president. Harris scripted history by becoming the first Black and Indian descent individual to be nominated as a vice-presidential candidate of a major political party. In her speech, at the virtual Democratic National Convention, Harris remembered her Chennai-born mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris, lamenting the fact that she could not be there to see her daughter's achievement. “My mother taught me that service to others gives life purpose and meaning.
