Watch | A rare double eclipse footage captured by NASA
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) captured stunning images of a double eclipse as it moved across the sun on Thursday September 1. In the early morning the SDO’s watchful eye witnessed the Earth and moon simultaneously crossing in front of the sun, according to NASA’s official website. Shadows of the two celestial bodies can be told apart by their edges, the moon showing a distinct and sharp outline while the Earth’s appears fuzzy. NASA said this difference is caused by the Earth’s atmosphere partially absorbing the sun’s light, resulting in the edge being ill-defined.
