Musharraf rules out emergency

President General Pervez Musharraf's first definitive denial on declaring an emergency came hours after television news channels had first reported the news. Private television channels and newspapers had reported that Musharraf was poised to take a step that would probably delay elections and could result in restrictions on rights of assembly and place curbs on the media.
