US halts some aid to Sri Lanka

The United States has halted some aid to Sri Lanka as human rights abuses have risen amid renewed civil war, a top US State Department official said on Thursday, calling on the government to hold those responsible accountable. Wrapping up a three-day visit to the island, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Richard Boucher said the United States was concerned over a spate of abductions and killings.
