BAGHDAD: The Pentagon said two senior Islamic State commanders were killed in a US airstrike in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on June 25. The strike killed IS’s deputy war minister Basim Muhammad Ahmad Sultan al-Bajari and a military commander named Hatim Talib al-Hamduni, it said. The announcement comes less than a week after Iraqi ground forces backed by coalition airstrikes retook the city of Fallujah from Islamic State.
