"I can confirm you 17 deaths so far, 14 people are being treated with critical wounds at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra," a police officer told PTI.
But a private television reported 18 deaths saying 12 of them died instantly.
Police said the drivers of the bus, which was going to north-western Rangpur from Dhaka carrying some 45 passengers, and the truck heading to the capital city with tube-well or manually operated water pumps, apparently survived the crash and fled the scene.
