Pakistan has freed 179 Indian fishermen and one civilian from Karachi’s Landhi jail as a goodwill gesture on the New Year, Geo News reported Saturday.
The freed fishermen will reach Lahore from where they will be handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah border Sunday, said sources.
There are still 276 fishermen held in Pakistani jails while over 480 boats are in Pakistan custody, the report added.
The fishermen had been arrested in recent months after they crossed into Pakistani waters while fishing, Xinhua reported.
