An Iranian diplomat abducted in Pakistan in 2008 has been rescued after a "successful operation," reports said on Tuesday.

Heshmatollah Attarzadeh was rescued during a "complicated intelligence operation" by Iranian intelligence forces and was sent back to his country, IRNA news agency quoted Iran's information ministry as saying.
The envoy, who worked as the commercial attaché at the Iranian consulate in Peshawar, was abducted by armed groups Nov 13, 2008, when he was on his way to his office. The gunmen killed his bodyguard, Online news agency said.
