Taktser Rinpoche, the eldest brother of exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama, passed away on Saturday in the United States after a protracted illness.
The 86-year-old had played a key role in the '50s when China attacked Tibet as his brother's intermediary, negotiating with the Chinese authorities.
