Earthquake reported in northern California: USGS

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck in the mountains of northern California, the US Geological Survey reported.

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck in the mountains of northern California, the US Geological Survey reported.

The quake's epicentre was 57 kilometres east of Eureka, 307 kilometres from the California state capital Sacramento, the USGS said.

The earthquake was recorded on Tuesday at 7:03 pm local time (0733 IST) and had a depth of 17 kilometres, it said.
