President Pratibha Patil was in for a pleasant surprise at 10-Downing street, the residence of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, when he requested her for a personal meeting with his two children.

Towards the end of the 30-minute meeting between the two leaders last evening, the sons of Prime Minister Brown --six-year-old John and four-year-old Fraser entered in the room and introduced themselves to the President.

Their desire to meet Patil is seen as affection and love that Indians share with British people, a point mentioned by the President at various forums during her four-day long state visit to United Kingdom - first by any Indian head of state in the last 20 years.

During the brief conversation with the kids, the President asked them about India, their studies and interests.
