Citing unnamed sources and "Democrats familiar with the decision," the Washington Post and The New York Times said Kaine will succeed Howard Dean as the party chairman at a high-level party meeting here later this month.

Kaine was elected Virginia governor in 2005, but the state constitution does not allow him to seek re-election when his term expires at the end.
