The victims – Silochana Bhavedi (19), Pawan Singh Sayyam (24), Balchand Sayyam (45), Kavita Bai (22), Samliya Sayyam (40), Nanhe Singh Sayyam (65), Santosh Singh (30), Rituraj(20), Bharat (22) and Dan Singh Sayyam (55) - were travelling in a sport utility vehicle which collided head on with a bus in Dindori district on Thursday.

Kundam sub-divisional magistrate Rishi Pawar who was present at the village told Hindustan Times that the villagers decided to bury the bodies instead of cremating them after taking into account the inclement weather.

It was necessary to perform the last rites on Friday itself as the bodies underwent autopsies, the sub-divisional magistrate added.

Though the administration had made adequate arrangements for supply of wood for cremation, rains forced the villagers to change their plan, he added.
