The film Dhoom:3 was one of the biggest films of 2013, and it performed upto everyone’s expectations when it released four years ago on this day. Starring Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif in leading roles, the film, like the previous ones in the Dhoom franchise, saw Abhishek’s character Jai save the city from a super thief, this time, played by Aamir.
While it didn’t exactly garner great reviews, the box-office collections more than made up for it. The film was declared a superhit within the first week of release, collecting around Rs 173 crores. The total collection stands at a staggering Rs 542 crores worldwide.
The action quotient of the film was top-notch, thanks to the enormous amount of money invested in the stunts.
As it completes four years of its release today, here are 10 interesting things about Dhoom 3 you probably didn’t know:
1.For the tap dance sequence in the title track, Aamir trained for three weeks alone in Australia!
2.There were strong rumours that Slumdog Millionaire actor Freida Pinto had been approached for the film originally, but the buzz got so serious after some time, that she had to actually deny it in an interview.
3.The scene where Abhishek shoots Aamir in the back, and then later, doesn’t find any mark where he had shot him has been taken from the 1982 film Aamne Saamne, starring Mithun Chakraborty. The reason how this happened, however, is something you have to watch the film for.
4.Aamir’s character was earlier named Jordan, but later changed to Charlie.
5.Aamir wore the bowler hat he sports in the film for three months prior to the shoot to get comfortable wearing it.
6.Jackie Shroff, who essays the role of Aamir’s dad in the film, reunited with him on a film after 18 years. The duo last worked in the 1995 film Rangeela. However, the Jackie and Aamir didn’t share any screen space in Dhoom 3.
7.The poster for Aamir’s next film, PK (2015), was shot when he was prepping for Dhoom 3! This was because the poster in which Aamir goes full monty required him to be in a great shape, which he already was for Dhoom.
8.This was the first Bollywood film ever to release in the IMAX format.
9. Hold your breath. Katrina Kaif wasn’t the first choice for the role of the acrobatic dancer Aaliya. It was Deepika Padukone, who turned down the film!
10. Not just Kamli, there was one more song picturised on Katrina Kaif, which traced the origins of her character. Aamir, who is said to be involved in all the creative decisions of his films, reportedly got the song chopped off because it was not going with the flow of the story.
