Akshay Kumar explains his Bengali accent and more in new Gold BTS video
In a new behind-the-scenes video from the film Gold, Akshay Kumar talks about the quirks of his character, Tapan Das.
Akshay Kumar has shared a new video online that takes his fans behind-the-scenes of his character Tapan Das, from the upcoming film, Gold. He introduces Das, the fictional manager who leads the Indian hockey team to its first Olympic gold medal at the 1936 games, despite being under British rule.
Akshay described Das as his ‘quirkiest character ever’ in a tweet with the video. The two-minute clip documents everything from the team coming up with Das’ look to his accent. “We had him wear a dhoti, gave him a moustache and a new hairdo,” says Akshay in the video.
“The person that inspired his character,” says director Reema Kagti, “is very controversial, skimming funds, alcoholic, unpopular, argumentative, but at the same time, knows the game really well.”
We see glimpses of Akshay on set, interacting with the other actors and having a great time shooting the film, but “Tapan is not a goofy, humorous character, “ says Akshay, “it’s his quirks that makes the scenes funny.”
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani clarified that Gold “is not a biopic. It is a completely fictional story but it is set against a real backdrop between 1933-48 India about what the country was, the sports... about hockey. It is not based on any character.”
Gold also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Vineet Kumar Singh. The film will be released on August 15.
