Director Abhishek Kapoor is known to be a perfectionist. So he was insistent that his lead actress in Kai Po Che, Amrita Puri, work hard on getting into the skin of her character. Since Amrita plays a Gujarati girl from Ahmedabad (the film is set in the ’90s), he wanted her to spend time there and understand the environment. In one of the sequences, she is part of a dandiya raas. The director wanted it to look real, rather than like a choreographed number.

So he sent her to Ahmedabad with the film crew during Navratri to learn the traditional routine. Being a theatre actor who is used to rigorous rehearsals, she jumped at the idea. Amrita and the crew spent seven hours at different locations learning the routines. By the time of the shoot, Amrita seemed to have become a pro. Abhishek says, “Amrita is one of the finest talents we have in the business, and I believe she has a great future.”
