Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan successfully underwent abdominal surgery on Saturday.

His actor-son Abhishek Bachchan confirmed the news. The 69-year-old actor, who has a history of stomach ailments after sustaining an intestinal injury on the sets of Coolie (1982), was admitted to the Seven Hills hospital in Andheri on Saturday.

Later, Abhishek tweeted, “Thank you all for your prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting.” He also said that the abdominal pain was due to the injury Big B suffered while filming Coolie. He said, “The surgery went on for two to three hours. He has been shifted to the ward, where he will be kept under observation.”

Earlier, doctors updated the media about the surgery. A doctor from the hospital said that Bachchan was examined and it was found that surgical interventions will relieve him of his problems, and the actor agreed. He, however, refused to give details about the megastar's medical condition, just saying he was stable.
