Shahana Goswami: Bold scenes or kissing on screen, I’m pretty comfortable with all of it

Actor Sahana Goswami, whose film Tu Hai Mera Sunday has just hit theatres, feels that as long as intimate or kissing scenes are a requirement of the story and script, she is fine performing them.

Actor Shahana Goswami might have not played the quintessential heroine in Bollywood films, but whatever roles she has portrayed so far on-screen, she made sure she got noticed. With films such as Rock On! (2008) and its sequel in 2016, Ru Ba Ru (2008) and Heroine (2012) to her credit, Shahana has tried her hand at diverse genres and isn’t really averse to her anything.

In her just released film Tu Hai Mera Sunday, the actor has been paired opposite TV heartthrob Barun Sobti and their on-screen kiss made it to headlines much before the release.

Asked if she ever had any apprehensions about kissing on screen or doing a bold intimate scene, Shahana is quick to refer to her filmography. “I’ve done on screen kisses many a times. They’ve also been made a big deal about at that time like in Ru Ba Ru and certain other projects, but I don’t have any objection to it. Like any other thing in a scene, if you’re required to even burst out and cry, you can debate that with your director if you feel that it’s not needed. So, everything is based on the authenticity and requirement of the project,” says Shahana.

The actor adds that whatever she does on screen has to have a background and can’t be there for the heck of it. “Bold scenes or kisses, they have to be an organic part of the story and script. After that, I have to have a level of trust and comfort with my director and producer, and usually, that goes hand in hand,” she says.

But, at a technical level, I do not have any problem with any specific kind of scenes. I feel quite comfortable as an actor to do and to perform anything that is required in a given role, provided I like the project,” maintains Shahana, who also shares screen space with Rasika Dugal, Vishal Malhotra and Maanvi Gaagroo in the film.

Sometime back, it was reported that Barun had asked the makers of the film to tone down the lovemaking scenes, as he didn’t want to affect his good guy image on TV. Reacting to these reports, Shahana says there is no such thing. “When you watch the film, you would realise that there’s no scope for any lovemaking scenes. It’s a very slow brewing romance, rather friendship that doesn’t even culminate into a relationship right till the end of the film. So, there’s absolutely no truth in these reports.”

Defending the storyline and calling it a clean film that can be viewed across all age groups, the actor adds, “There was no scope or necessity for ‘those kind’ of scenes. Even when I read the script, there was no such scene because that’s just not the track. The plot didn’t have any scope for a romance between us.”
