Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Kabir Singh, has said it may be a remake of Arjun Reddy but the lead characters - Kabir and Arjun are not the same person, they are cousins. Vijay Deverakonda played the lead role in the Telugu hit film that was directed by Sandeep Vanga who has also directed the Hindi remake.
A Mid Day report quoted Shahid as saying, “Vijay Deverakonda was spectacular in the film. If you ask me, Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy are cousins; they are not the same person. We have tried to do something different because it’s important to rediscover the journey of the character. We shifted the milieu to Delhi and Mumbai; so, by extension, his family and upbringing has changed. But we have retained the fundamental energy of the character.”
“We are trying to make it raw. The role required latent rage as the protagonist is full of angst. It wasn’t easy to internalise that rage,” he added.
Shahid has been sharing posters and teasers from the film and most of these showed him surrounded by smoke. While the first few posters showed Shahid’s silhouette, it was only last week that we got a glimpse of Shahid’s face on a poster.
The film’s story revolves around a surgeon whose life unravels after a bad breakup. The character ends up being a victim of drugs and alcohol. The film also features Kiara Advani in lead role and is set for a June 21 release. The trailer for the movie is likely to be launched in second week of May.
Shahid is currently enjoying some time off in London with his wife Mira Rajput, and has shared social media updates for fans.
