Continuing its fall for the sixth consecutive day, the Indian rupee on Monday depreciated by 43 paise against the greenback in opening trade on increased dollar demand from importers and sustained capital outflows by foreign funds amid weak Asian markets.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit, which breached the 51-mark for the first time on Friday, declined by 43 paise to 51.55 against dollar on increased dollar demand from importers.

Dealers said melting Asian markets, which fell four per cent in opening trade on Monday, and heavy capital outflows by foreign funds mainly put pressure on the rupee.

On Friday, the Indian benchmark Sensex ended lower by over 63 points or 0.71 per cent.
