Mahindra & Mahindra is continuing to expand its utility vehicle portfolio, and one of the most interesting products in the pipeline is its upcoming pickup truck. First previewed in 2023 as the Global Pik Up Concept, this model is essentially a pickup interpretation of the Scorpio N, and it has been spotted testing on Indian roads.

As of now, Mahindra has not confirmed whether the pick-up truck will be launched in India or not. (Instagram / 1_solo_biker)

Recent spy shots reveal a heavily camouflaged test mule riding on 18-inch wheels. While the exterior details are largely hidden, the cabin offers a few important clues. The presence of an automatic transmission selector and an electronic parking brake confirms that the pickup will not be limited to manual-only configurations.

The test vehicle was clearly not wearing production-ready lighting elements. The front and rear units appeared temporary, with the tail lamps borrowed from the older Scorpio. That said, some fresh details were visible, including a new grille design, a proper tailgate and a shark fin antenna. The load bed itself was covered in grime, suggesting that the vehicle is being put through demanding real-world testing.

Single cab and double cab versions confirmed

Earlier sightings have already confirmed that Mahindra plans to offer both single-cab and double-cab versions of this pickup. This indicates a clear intention to cater to different customer needs, ranging from commercial use to lifestyle buyers. While there is still no official word on a launch timeline, the pickup is being developed as a global product and is expected to be introduced in multiple international markets.

Given its Scorpio N underpinnings, the pickup is likely to share a large number of components with the SUV. Up front, it is expected to feature familiar elements such as LED projector headlamps, a bold grille with Mahindra’s Twin Peaks logo and a flat, muscular bonnet. Together, these should give it a tough yet modern road presence.

Interestingly, the two body styles differ in wheel setup. The single cab version appears to use the same alloy wheels as the Scorpio N, while the double cab variant seen testing runs on steel wheels. Previous versions feature a roll bar that extends above the roofline, which is likely aimed at improving structural safety. At the rear, the test vehicles seem to use halogen tail lamps instead of the LED units shown on the concept, similar to those seen on the older Scorpio Getaway.

The original concept showcased a long list of advanced features such as Level 2 ADAS, connected tech, trailer sway control, multiple airbags, driver fatigue monitoring and Mahindra’s 4Xplore four wheel drive system. How much of this technology will make it to the production version remains to be seen.

Under the hood, the upcoming pickup is expected to borrow its engines from Mahindra’s existing SUV lineup. This includes the 2.0 litre turbo petrol and the 2.2 litre diesel motor, both of which are already proven across the brand’s current models.
