Batra re-elected to RS from Haryana
Rajya Sabha member from Haryana Shadi Lal Batra, whose term was to expire next month, retained his seat as he was today declared elected uncontested to the Upper House.
Rajya Sabha member from Haryana Shadi Lal Batra, whose term was to expire next month, retained his seat as he was declared elected uncontested to the Upper House on Thursday.
As no other candidate was in the fray, the Congress leader was declared elected uncontested, official sources said here.
Batra, considered a staunch loyalist of chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had on Monday filed his nomination.
His candidature was supported by Congress and Independent MLAs in the Haryana Assembly.
Batra is a sitting member of Council of States from Haryana for about two-and-a-half years and his present term was to expire on April two.
Having twice served the state as member of Haryana assembly from Rohtak, Batra also remained chairman of Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board.
The ruling Congress was expected to retain the seat as it has a strength of 46 in the 90-member assembly and also enjoys the support of Independents.
