Govt job lure: Ludhiana man booked for duping woman of ₹8.5L

Is a loan defaulter himself; had allegedly lured victim saying he has links with senior officials of Punjab and Sind Bank

An employee at a private bank became victim of a fraud when a Haibowal-based man duped her of ₹8.5 lakh on the pretext of getting her a government job in Punjab and Sind Bank.

The police have booked the accused, identified as Lalit Nayyar alias Mohammad Umar of Rishi Nagar, Haibowal, based on the complaint lodged by the victim on March 19.

Victim Roohi Chhabra said she is an employee at the collection department of a private bank: “Accused Lalit Nayyar was a loan defaulter. He had taken loan for his motorcycle and car and used to come to the bank on a regular basis. He asked about my salary and offered me a job in Punjab and Sind Bank. He lured me by saying that he has links with the senior officials of the bank. He demanded ₹10 lakh,” said the complainant.

She gave ₹8.5 lakh to the accused through different modes of payment between November 2018 and January 2019 but the accused neither got her the job nor returned her money.

During the investigation, the accused failed to produce himself before the police despite repeated reminders and was later proven guilty. On the order of the police commissioner, a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused at Division Number 5 police station. He is yet to be arrested.
