Earlier in the mor ning, Haryana, who had conceded first-innings lead of 37 runs, put up an improved show in their second essay by making 321 (all out) in 84.4 overs. They were assisted by Budhwar, Dagar and Yadav, who scored 65, 59 and 73 runs, respectively. For Assam, Jogeswar Bhumiz was the pick of the bowler as he claimed four wickets for 66 runs.

Chandigarh: City-based Himachal batsman Prashant Chopra struck a ton (110) to help his team stay on track while chasing hosts Uttar Pradesh’s big first innings total of 542 on day three of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match, being played at the Choudhary Charan Singh Sports Stadium, Muzaffarnagar, on Wednesday.
At close of the day’s play, the visitors were 314 for 6 in 89.5 overs, still 228 runs in arrears. Besides Chopra, whose knock came off 156 balls with the help 19 boundaries and one six, the other notable scorer for Himachal was AK Kaushik. Kaushik made 86 runs off 140 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and one six. AK Rana (46no) and EC Sen were at the crease when the stumps were drawn. For the home team, Mohammad Saif was the pick of the bowler as he claimed two wickets for just 17 runs.
Arjit, Arpit shine in GNPS victory
Chandigarh: The combined team of Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS) and Chandigarh Cricket Association (CCA) defeated Haryana Cricket Association team by 63 runs in the opening match of the 1st APJ Gold Cup cricket tournament for under-19 at GNPS-36 on Wednesday.
The tournament is being organised by CCA, affiliated to Punjab Cricket Association ( PCA). Batting first, GNPS &CCA scored 273 for the loss of five wickets in 45 overs. Arjit Singh was the top scorer, making run-a-ball 95. He was ably supported by Bhagmender, who made 56 off 75 balls. Arpit Singh scored 44, while Vineet Dhaka added 23 runs.
Another notable contribution came from Abhimanyu, who scored 29 off 23 balls. Pravesh Sharma (1 for 28) and Anish (1 for 48) were the wicket-takers for Haryana.
Chasing the target, Haryana could only manage 210 for the loss of nine wickets in 45 overs. Mayank Choudhary scored 58 off 60 balls, while Deepak made 37 off 40 balls. Raghav added 31 runs but in the end Haryana fell way short of the target.
For winners, Arpit Singh was the pick of the bowlers. He took three wickets for 47 runs. Hemak and Raman Bishnoi took two wickets each for 28 and 14 runs, respectively.|
