Earlier, the meteorological department had predicted heavy rain on June 25 and 26. Experts attribute the delay of monsoon break as a chief cause for hot and humid conditions.

The director of chandigarh meteorological department, Surinder Paul told HT that monsoon was set to arrive in the region on time, but there was a break day in monsoon for a week as the axis of monsoon trough is shifting towards the Himalayan foothills.

“The break of monsoon-like conditions is likely to prevail in the region. The shifting of monsoon has led to dry and hot conditions in the region,” he said.

Paul said: “Rain is expected in the first week of July and favourable conditions will prevail in the city in the next couple of days.”
