2019 bribe case, Mohali

The district police on Friday filed a charge sheet against suspended Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) in-charge, inspector Satwant Singh Sidhu, in a ₹7.2-lakh bribe case.
Sidhu, along with others, is accused of letting off a drug supplier after accepting the bribe in May 2019.
The special task force (STF) had arrested the supplier, Kuldeep Singh Deepa, and four others with drugs, jewellery and drug money, from Sector 76, Mohali, in July 2019. During interrogation, Kuldeep had told the STF that he was caught in May as well, but was released after payment of ₹7.2 lakh.
The charge sheet against Sidhu has been filed under various sections of the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 384, 454, 380, 342, 201 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.
The charge sheet against sub-inspector Sukhmander Singh, the then in-charge of the anti-narcotics cell, Mohali, and other accused, Jyoti, Lovepreet Singh and Maninder Singh, has already been filed in court.
As per case files, it was Sukhmander who had detained Kuldeep. The team then took the accused to CIA, Kharar, but he was let off. Sidhu was then posted as the CIA in-charge. It was alleged both the cops distributed the money among themselves.
Jyoti is accused of taking ₹5 lakh from Kuldeep’s family to be paid to police. She was identified following the interrogation of Lovepreet and Maninder, also arrested with Kuldeep.
