The Haryana rice millers have announced a boycott of custom-milled rice (CMR) operations for the upcoming Kharif procurement season, which is likely to begin by the end of September.

On repeated requests by the millers, the Union government last month decided to extend the deadline for delivery of CMR to the FCI to September 30, 2026, but the FCI reportedly stopped accepting their further stocks. (HT File)

The call was made by the anxious millers under the banner of the Haryana Rice Millers and Dealers Association, as nearly 6 lakh MT of CMR worth 2800 crore is lying at rice mills across the state amid rejection by the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

The decision was taken at a meeting in Karnal on Friday, which was chaired by chairman of the association Jewel Singla and president Hansraj Singla.

On repeated requests by the millers, the Union government last month decided to extend the deadline for delivery of CMR to the FCI to September 30, 2026, but the FCI reportedly stopped accepting their further stocks.

President of the Karnal Rice Millers and Dealers Association Sourabh Gupta said that despite meetings with Union minister of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs Prahlad Joshi, Union minister for power, housing and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, Haryana minister of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs Rajesh Nagar, and the director of the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department, there has been no solution.

“We also staged a dharna outside the directorate’s office in Chandigarh. The issues are between the union-state government and we are suffering. We demand the acceptance by FCI and early settlement of outstanding dues,” he added.

Gupta said that if their stock is not accepted, they will automatically become the government’s defaulter and be debarred from the CMR process in the upcoming season.

“So, we ourselves decided not to register and participate for the upcoming season until our issues are resolved,” he added.
