SSP Vivek Sheel Soni confirmed the development and said the accused has been identified as Malkit Singh, who is a member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang. “A case has been registered against him under the Arms Act at the police station, Bhagwantpura,” the SSP said.

The SSP said that five pistols and 20 live cartridges, including three pistols of .32 bore and two pistols of .315 bore were recovered from the accused.

He further revealed that Malkit, along with his accomplices, was involved in a firing incident in Batala city.

“An FIR under sections 307, 148, 149, 379-B of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act has been registered in this regard at the police station, Batala city,” he added.

The SSP added that Malkit was sent to police custody by the court.

His questioning in custody is likely to reveal many other important details about his links and gang, he added.

SSP disclosed that accused Malkit Singh was also involved in supplying illegal weapons and drugs in different parts of Punjab as a member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang.
