Kaithal police arrests 6 with drugs destined for Punjab

Police said that 1,928.1 kg of poppy husk was being transported from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab in a truck, escorted by an SUV via the Delhi-Katra National Highway

A team from the Special Detective Unit (SDU) of the Kaithal police on Monday claimed to have busted an inter-state drug trafficking gang by arresting six people and seizing narcotics.

Police said that 1,928.1 kg of poppy husk was being transported from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab in a truck, escorted by an SUV via the Delhi-Katra National Highway.

DSP Sushil Prakash said that during the arrest, the SUV driver attempted to flee but heavy traffic prevented the escape, allowing the police team to surround and intercept both vehicles.

The four SUV occupants were identified as Ravi Kumar, Karnail Singh, Naresh Kumar and Sukhwinder Singh, all residents of Patiala district in Punjab.

The truck’s two occupants were identified as Harvinder Singh and Gurjant Singh, also from Patiala district.

A police spokesperson said that five sacks containing 101 kg of poppy husk were recovered from the SUV and 90 sacks containing 1,827.1 kg from the truck. The total recovery from both vehicles was 95 sacks weighing 1,928.1 kg.

A case was registered at Kalayat Police Station under the NDPS Act.
