Daba police have booked her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law for abetting her suicide.

The FIR has been registered following the statement of her father.

It is the fifth such incident in the past 16 days when a woman has ended her life after allegedly being harassed by her husband and in-laws.

The complainant said his daughter had married the accused, who works at an electrical shop, in April 2020. He told the police that the accused used to harass his daughter over not performing daily chores, including washing clothes, doing dishes and cleaning.

She had shared her ordeal with him several times and he intervened in the matter too, but to no avail, the complainant added.

He alleged that the accused had called him on Friday evening, stating that his daughter was not well and they were taking her to hospital.

He immediately rushed to Ludhiana. He came to know that his daughter had hanged herself.

ASI Jagtar Singh, who is investigating the case, said that the woman was physically weak. The FIR has been registered under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.

Efforts are being made to arrest the accused, the cop added.
