Ludhiana | Industry pins hope on newly-formed AAP government

While congratulating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its resounding success, the state industry has expressed hope that the new government will give the much-needed push to industrialisation.

Newly elected chairperson of Punjab Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Amit Thapar said they welcome the statement by CM-elect Bhagwant Mann that development of industry will be one of the major foci of the new government.

“We congratulate the winners and welcome the verdict,” said Thapar.

Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) president Upkar Singh Ahuja urged Bhagwant Mann and other senior AAP leaders to form a strong team of ministers to help strengthen the industry, which passing through crucial time, as most of the MSME units in the state are on the verge of closure.

President Badish Jindal, Federation of Punjab Small Industry Associations (Fopsia), said the credit for such a landslide victory goes to sincere efforts of the party that provides ease of living to Delhi’s public by eradicating corruption in state. “We are fed up of corruption and are highly hopeful that the new incumbents will work for the development of the industry,” he said.

Two UP residents held with 2.8 kg opium

Ludhiana The police arrested two Uttar Pradesh-based men and recovered 2.8 kg opium from their possession. The accused– Akhilesh Chander of Aurangabad village, Uttar Pradesh, and Mahesh Kumar of Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, were arrested near Sua bridge in Majara village.

Sub-inspector Bhupinder Kumar, the investigating officer, said a case under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Sahnewal police station.

Man booked for posting picture, video while casting vote

Ludhiana The police lodged an FIR against Gurvir Singh accused of posting picture and video clicked inside the polling station on the election day. The FIR has been lodged following the statement of the returning officer of Ludhiana West, who said Singh had posted the picture and video of a polling station while casting the vote, which surfaced on March 10.

Assistant sub-inspector Sukhjinder Singh said a case under Section 126 B and 132 of Representation of People Act has been lodged against the accused at Division number 5 police station. The police are trying to trace the accused.

Sales executive of auto agency booked for cheating

Ludhiana A sales executive of an auto agency has been booked for forgery. An FIR has been lodged against the accused Simarjit Singh of Chimni road, New Shimlapuri, following the statement of Amit Pathania, manager of the Dada Motors, Dhandhari Kalan.

Pathania said the accused had received ₹1.55 lakh from a customer Rashpal Singh as advance against a car. The accused instead of depositing the money with the company grabbed it. When his act came to light in August 2021 during an audit, they filed a complaint on August 7, 2021. Assistant sub-inspector Harpal Singh, the investigating officer, said a case under Sections 406 ( punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of Indian Penal Code has been registered.

Four held for stealing ₹1.5L, valuables from house on Hambran road

Ludhiana Police on Thursday arrested four of a gang for allegedly stealing cash and jewellery from the house of a yarn trader on Hambran road, recovering some of the stolen articles from their possession. One member of the gang is still at large. The accused, identified as Jaswinder Singh of Amrit Colony, Rohit Kumar of Dairy Complex, Ved Parkash of Kapil Park and Sanjay Kumar of Rishi Nagarwere arrested near Hambran road following a tip-off.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Amrik Singh, who is investigating the case, said a yarn trader Ashok Jain of Hambran road had lodged a complaint reporting a theft of ₹1.5 lakh, three mobile phones, gold and diamond jewellery from his house on intervening night of March 8 and 9. He added that a case under sections 457 (lurking, trespass and house breaking) and 380 (theft in dwelling) of Indian Penal Code.
