Servant for 15 yrs helps thieves target employer’s house in Ludhiana

A domestic help who worked for a realtor’s family for nearly 15 years allegedly conspired with others and handed over the keys to his employer’s locked house to his associates, who entered the premises and decamped with ₹5 lakh in cash, foreign currency, gold jewellery and other valuables, police said.

The Daresi police have arrested all four accused in connection with the burglary. They have been identified as Sarwan Kumar of Balaji Enclave, his aides Sushil Kumar of Shimla Colony, Mohammad Saif of Kakowal Road and Bittu Kumar of Kuldeep Nagar, Jodhewal.

According to police, complainant Sukhwinder Pal, a realtor from Bal Singh Nagar, had gone to Delhi on August 3 after locking his house. His family members are based abroad and he frequently travels outside Ludhiana.

Sarwan, who had been working for the family for around 15 years, allegedly had a spare set of keys to the house. Police said he allegedly used his access to hatch the burglary plan and handed over the keys to his associates. The accused allegedly entered the house and stole ₹5 lakh, 600 Canadian dollars, 150 pounds, gold ornaments, an imported watch and the complainant’s passport.

The theft came to light when Sukhwinder returned and found the house ransacked. He subsequently approached the police.

Inspector Jaswinder Singh, SHO, Daresi police station, said the absence of signs of forced entry raised suspicion that the burglars had entered using a key. During questioning, Sarwan allegedly confessed to his involvement and subsequently led police to his associates. Police said the accused told investigators that they had planned the burglary to make quick money.

Gold ornaments have been recovered from the accused, while efforts are underway to recover the stolen cash and other valuables, the SHO added. Further investigation is in progress.
