In yet another hit-and-run accident in the district, a tipper truck claimed the life of two friends who were riding a motorcycle in Saneta near Sohana on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Gurnam Singh, 33, and Gurcharan Singh, 22, residents of Khanpur Bangar. Their friend, Rajinder, who was also riding the bike, suffered injuries.

Police said Gurnam was married and had a child, while Gurcharan’s marriage was scheduled next month. On Saturday, the three friends were riding a motorcycle in Saneta, when a tipper truck coming from Banur hit their two-wheeler and fled. The trio fell on the road and suffered multiple injuries.

The friends were rushed to the local civil hospital, where Gurnam and Gurcharan died due to severe head injuries. Rajinder, who injured his leg, was out of danger, said police.

Police added that the absconding truck driver had been booked under Section 304-A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sohana police station and will be arrested soon.

Trucks crushes woman riding scooter in Chandigarh

Chandigarh A truck mowed down a woman riding a scooter near Old Airport light point, police said on Saturday.

While Sushila Yadav, a resident of Mauli Jagran, was killed, her husband, Putti Lal Yadav, sustained injuries.

Their son Sudhanshu Yadav, 21, told the police that on Thursday, he was following his parents’ Honda Activa on a motorcycle while returning from a relative’s house in Zirakpur. His father was riding the scooter and mother was sitting pillion.

Around 10.50 pm, a speeding truck, coming from Zirakpur, hit his parents’ scooter near Old Airport light point and ran over his mother’s head as she fell down. The couple was rushed to GMCH, Sector 32, where Sushila succumbed to her injuries.

The truck driver, Bhupinder Singh, of Bhawanigarh village, Sangrur, was arrested and later released on bail. He was booked under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304-A of the IPC at the Sector 31 police station.

3-year-old boy hurt in hit-and-run

A three-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run accident at Mauli Complex on Friday.

Suresh, an auto-rickshaw driver, told the police that his son Dinesh ventured out of the house unnoticed around 10 am. While Dinesh was on the road, two youths on a motorcycle hit him and sped away. Neighbours spotted his injured son and informed him, following which he rushed him to the civil hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula.

Police booked the unidentified motorcyclist under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC at the Mauli Jagran police station.

They are scanning CCTV cameras in the area to get clues about the accused.
