Ludhiana: Two held for running fake medical, dope test racket in civil hospitals

Khanna police have busted a racket involved in preparing fake medical certificates and forged dope test reports and have arrested two persons in connection with the case, who were allegedly operating from parking areas of civil hospitals in Ludhiana and Khanna.
The accused have been identified as Manchit Kumar, 23, a BBA dropout, and Ramesh Kumar alias Toni, 55, a resident of Field Ganj. Police said Manchit Kumar is the alleged mastermind of the operation.
Officials said the accused exploited loopholes in healthcare and administrative systems to prepare forged documents. Stamps of doctors and health officials, along with identification proofs including PAN and Aadhaar cards of around 30 people, were recovered from their possession.
Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Darpan Ahluwalia said the case came to light after a Ludhiana resident received a suspicious dope test report. The document was examined by the senior medical officer at civil hospital, Khanna, who found it to be forged and lodged a complaint.
Following this, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to forgery, cheating and use of forged documents. Acting on leads, police arrested the two accused.
The SSP said Manchit Kumar had earlier worked as a parking contractor at civil hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic, which helped him gain knowledge of official procedures. This was later used to replicate signatures and documentation processes. Police said the accused also used parking lots as a front for their activities.
Investigators said the forged documents were supplied to individuals seeking arms licences, government jobs and court-related clearances. The accused had also issued fake medical certificates to two candidates selected in the Railways.
Police said Manchit Kumar was allegedly driven by the desire to earn easy money and maintain a lavish lifestyle. He had invested in trading apps and had also worked as a male escort. Further investigation is underway and more disclosures are expected.
In a related case last year, Salem Tabri police had arrested two contractual laboratory technicians of civil hospital, Ludhiana, for issuing fake dope test reports to firearm licence applicants.
