26-year-old dies of electric shock

A 26-year-old laborer died in Punjabi Bagh, Delhi, after being electrocuted by a charged iron railing. Police are investigating the incident.

New Delhi: A 26-year-old labourer died on Sunday after allegedly being electrocuted by an iron railing at a park in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh, police said.

Police identified the deceased as Rohit, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Camp. He had gone to fetch water from a tap near the park’s wall when the incident occurred, police said.

“While collecting water, Rohit allegedly touched a charged iron railing and suffered a severe electric shock,” said a police officer.

Local residents claimed they had flagged the issue of the charged railing with the local priest, whose temple is adjacent to it, but he neither complained to the electricity department nor switched off lights and appliances.

Police said the priest and locals are being questioned about the case.

DCP (west) Darade Sharad Bhaskar said a case has been registered against unknown persons and investigation is taken up.
