Delhi budget 2023 highlights: AAP govt proposes infrastructure driven budget of ₹78,800 crore

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, re-iterated that Centre is giving ‘step-motherly’ treatment to Delhi on its share given in central taxes.

“All anti-corruption measures, faceless services, doorstep delivery of services will continue,” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said in a press conference post budget presentation on Wednesday.

“I don't think there has ever been such a comprehensive plan for a clean, beautiful and modern Delhi. No state has had such a comprehensive plan where work has been done from big to small aspects,” Delhi's Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot after presenting the budget.

Wednesday's Delhi budget was the ninth consecutive budget of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in which education continued to get the highest allocation of ₹16,575 crore for the 2023-24 financial year.

"I would have been happier if this budget was presented by Manish Sisodia who is like my elder brother. The budget is an expression of expectations and aspirations of the people," Gahlot said in his budget speech.

The AAP government will set up a lab for real-time pollution data monitoring and gathering in each district of the national capital, it announed in budget presentation on Wednesday.

Delhi finance minister Kailash Gahlot informed Wednesday that the number of free diagnostic tests in Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics will increase from 256 to 450 this year as he tabled the budget 2023-24 in assembly.

The minister also announced that all 57 bus depots will be equipped with charging facilities for e-vehicles, while Sarai Kale Khan and Kashmere Gate ISBTs will be developed as bus ports with airport-like facilities.

“9 new hospitals being built, 4 to be operational this year. Hospital bed count to increase from 14,000 to 30,000,” said FM Gahlot.

In its budget for the National Capital for 2023-23, the Aam Aadmi Party has allocated a total of ₹9,742 crore for health for the year 2023-24 in its budget, presented on Wednesday. This is a marginal decrease from ₹9,769 crore last year.

“PM 10, PM 2.5 pollution in Delhi reduced by over 30% in 8 years. Number of ‘severe’ air quality days dropped to just 6 in 2022,” said cabinet minister Kailash Gahlot while presenting budget on Wednesday, as he lauded the Kejriwal government's steps to fight pollution levels in Delhi.

Delhi FM Kailash Gahlot, while tabling budget on Wednesday, said in last four months, 42,000 women visited mohalla clinics meant exclusively for women. He also said keeping its success in view, the AAP government has decided to build another 100 similar facilities, as part of Delhi budget 2023.
