In a letter to municipal commissioner Inderjeet Singh, Jacob asked him to act against staff responsible for the girl’s death. “In the past, too, directives were given by the undersigned that wires and poles of streetlights, etc. should be repaired during rains. Despite this, the streetlights department did not take cognisance of it. Immediately, all streetlights under the municipal corporation should be inspected and rectified so that such incidents do not recur. Also, the responsibility of guilty employees/engineers should be fixed and they must be informed about the action taken,” the letter read.

Singh, meanwhile, said that an inquiry would be initiated as per the directives of the divisional commissioner and strict action would be taken against the staff found guilty of poor maintenance of electric poles in the area.

The minor girl was electrocuted after she came into contact with a charged pole near a mall on Kanpur Road on Saturday evening.
