King George’s Medical University teachers’ association on Friday announced setting up a corpus fund to help families of teachers who die while in service.
“If the family loses an earning member, the entire family faces hardship as there are a lot of financial issues too to deal with. We have decided to contribute one day salary every month for next up to five years to make a corpus fund, the interest of which will help such families financially,” said Dr KK Singh, newly elected president of the association in a press conference here on Friday.
To mention, the KGMU teachers had recently decided to contribute one day salary to help the family of a faculty member in dental wing who died due to illness.
Meanwhile, the election results of the association were also declared on the occasion, and it is for the first time in the last 20 years that all the members of the association were re-elected unopposed.
Along with Dr Singh, Prof Santosh Kumar (general secretary), Dr Bhaskar Agrawal (treasurer), Prof JD Rawat, Prof Manoj Kumar and Prof Pavitra Rastogi (all three vice presidents), Dr Ajay Kumar Verma (editor), Dr Sheetal Verma (secretary social outreach) and the entire team in the association were re-elected.
Addressing the press conference, Dr Singh said the university needs to ensure that its executive council (EC) gets the four elected members in its 22-member EC. “At present the nominated members are taking decisions related to patient care, and services of teachers and this is happening without any opposition or thorough discussion which the elected members can do,” said Dr Singh.
“We demand the university to get its EC the four elected members in addition to the existing nominated members before the next meeting,” said Dr Santosh Kumar.
