Last week, Justice Maheshwari was at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court to deliver a keynote lecture on “Strengthening of the Justice Delivery System: A synergy between Bar and Bench” organised by the Oudh Bar Association (OBA) of the Lucknow high court. The event was part of the “Think Legal” lecture series organised by the OBA.

Addressing the gathering, Justice Maheshwari explained the justice delivery system with the help of a cricket pitch highlighting roles of bowlers, batsmen, fielders and ultimately the umpires. He explained how each and every one in a cricket match had an indispensable part to play, howsoever big or small, in achieving a common objective.

“A lawyer must give up his ego in order to become a great lawyer and strive to excel only through hard work,” said Justice Maheshwari while explaining duties of a lawyer. Also present on the occasion, Chief Justice of the Allahabad high court Justice Rajesh Bindal discussed language barriers faced by some lawyers and even some judges.

He also stressed on speaking in mother tongue but added that it should not be a barrier in the process of justice delivery. Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, former chief justice of the Karnataka high court, and Justice (retd) Shabihul Hasnain of the Allahabad high court were also present. Lawyer Rakesh Kumar Chaudhary, president, OBA, gave a vote of thanks.
