Uttar Pradesh records highest power supply despite coal shortage
The state is currently receiving 1,500-2,000 MW less power than normal, while power availability on the Indian Energy Exchange has been limited and expensive.

Uttar Pradesh supplied the record power of 27,407 MW, highest in the country, on September 14 despite a nationwide coal shortage triggered by heavy rains and waterlogging in coal-producing areas, the state government said on Tuesday. Maharashtra was second with 25,694 MW.
The state is currently receiving 1,500-2,000 MW less power than normal, while power availability on the Indian Energy Exchange has remained limited and expensive, averaging around ₹10 per unit for only about 16 hours a day since September 1.

“Despite the shortage, the UP Power Corporation has managed to maintain supply above the scheduled roster in rural, semi-urban and urban areas through additional power purchases,” officials claimed.
Additional chief secretary, (Energy) and UPPCL chairman Ashish Kumar Goel said around 2,200 MW additional power was expected within the next two-three days as several generating units return to service and coal supplies improve. This, he said, should help eliminate the 2,000-3,000 MW night-time curtailment currently being faced.
Goel also directed officials to ensure scheduled supply, strengthen transformer and substation maintenance, reduce line losses and fix accountability for safety lapses.
