Hindon crosses warning levels; Yamuna also rises amid heavy rainfall

NOIDA: The water level in the Hindon river rose above the warning mark at the Noida base station on Saturday amid continued rainfall in Gautam Budh Nagar, while the level at the Hindon barrage in Ghaziabad remained below its danger mark, according to data from the irrigation department.

The Noida base station, a separate monitoring point, recorded a water level of 195.73 metres at 4pm, against its warning level of 195 metres and danger level of 196 metres. The level was therefore above the warning mark but remained below the danger level at the time of the reading. The highest flood level recorded at the station is 197.28 metres.

Separately, at the Hindon barrage in Ghaziabad, the upstream water level was 201.80 metres at 5pm, against the barrage’s danger level of 205.08 metres. The downstream level was 199.70 metres and discharge was recorded at 4,454 cusecs.

“The upstream water level at the Hindon barrage was 201.80 metres at 5pm, against the danger level of 205.08 metres, while the discharge was 4,454 cusecs,” said B K Singh, executive engineer, irrigation department.

The rise in water levels comes amid continued rain in the district. According to India Meteorological Department data, Noida received 28.5mm rainfall in the 24 hours to 8.30am on Saturday, including 11.5mm recorded between 8.30am on Friday and 8.30am on Saturday. Noida recorded a minimum temperature of 25.7°C on Saturday, while the minimum temperature was 33°C.
