UP home guard dead, constable injured as Thar runs over patrol bike in Ghaziabad

A home guard was killed and a constable injured in an NH-9 crash, while a separate DME accident left a sub-inspector dead and five injured.

A Uttar Pradesh home guard was killed and a constable was injured on Wednesday after a SUV hit the police patrolling motorcycle on National Highway-9 (NH-9), near Crossings Republik, police said on Thursday. The incident took place around 11.15pm.

Home guard killed as Thar hits police patrol bike

“The police response vehicle (the motorcycle) was of Noida police, and they were headed to Gaur City 2 area via NH-9. The bike was hit by a speeding and rashly driven Thar. Police rushed both injured to a hospital where the home guard, identified as Kapil Kumar, 40, died during treatment. The injured constable, Praveen Kumar, 36, is stable. An FIR was registered at the Crossings Republik police station. The 34-year-old SUV driver was arrested and his vehicle seized,” said Priyashri Pal, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Wave City.

Six injured after Swift collides with tanker on Delhi-Meerut Expressway

In another accident, around 5am on Thursday on the DME near Lal Kuan, involved a Maruti Swift carrying six people, including a police party. The car, travelling on the Ghaziabad-Meerut carriageway, collided with a tanker truck, injuring all six occupants. “One of the injured persons, sub-inspector Upendra Kumar, 59, died during treatment while the others are receiving treatment,” said Upasana Pandey, ACP, Kotwali, told HT.
