Police constable found dead in ACP office, kin suspect foul play

Hyderabad A 26-year-old police constable was found dead in the restroom of a police station at L B Nagar in Hyderabad in the early hours of Wednesday, the police said, adding that prima facie, it appeared to be a death by suicide, even as his family members suspected foul play.
The body of the constable was found hanging in the rest room of the L B Nagar assistant commissioner of police (ACP) office at around 2.30 am. The constable had been attached to the office for e-COPS duty and was working on night shifts.
“The other police personnel who noticed him immediately shifted him to nearby Kamineni Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” a senior police official of the L B Nagar police station.
The official said the deceased hailed from Bandalemuru village in Manchal mandal of Ranga Reddy district and had been staying in a room along with his friends at Karmanghat, about a km away from the police station.
“He was a quiet person and there were no indications of the deceased experiencing any kind of stress. Inquiries also revealed that he did not have any family-related problems. He attended the duty on Tuesday as well without any complaints,” the police official said.
His body was subsequently shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination and a case of suspicious death was registered at the L B Nagar police station.
After receiving information about the incident, senior police officials reached the station and enquired into the circumstances surrounding the constable’s death. Police informed the family members of the deceased, who rushed to the police station on Wednesday morning.
Tension prevailed outside the LB Nagar police station with the family members and their villagers staging a protest. At one point, some protesters allegedly entered the police station and damaged a computer and a printer.
As the situation turned tense, a large number of police personnel were deployed at the station to bring the situation under control. L B Nagar deputy commissioner of police Anuradha inspected the police station and made inquiries about the possible cause of the constable’s death.
Speaking to reporters, the deceased constable’s father refused to believe that his son had died by suicide. “There were bloodstains in the rest room where he was found hanging. We want an explanation from the police what exactly led to the death of my son,” he demanded.
His mother alleged that his son might have been tortured. “Why did they kill my son? Why did they kill him and then hang him? Why was there no CCTV camera in that room? Why was his phone switched off? Why did they not show my son to us until we arrived? We want justice,” she alleged.
Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy, who represents the constituency, reached the LB Nagar police station and spoke to the bereaved family.
