Standing committee chairman Shreenath Bhimale said the move addresses a long-pending demand. “There has been a consistent demand to upgrade Sanjay Gandhi Hospital into a multi-speciality facility, given its proximity to PCMC, Khadki Cantonment, Aundh and Bopodi. The building is ready, and only minor modifications are required. Instead of running it on a PPP basis, PMC will operate the hospital on its own,” he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party corporator Sunny Nimhan said he had been pushing for the upgrade. “It was my long-standing demand to improve the existing Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Bopodi. After Bhimale prioritised the health sector in the budget, I approached the standing committee with the proposal,” he said.

“Bhimale approved the proposal immediately and assured that the necessary work would be completed. The hospital will benefit residents of Aundh, Baner, Khadki, Bopodi and nearby PCMC areas,” Nimhan added.
