Pune police register 10 NDPS cases in anti-drug crackdown

The city police registered 10 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across eight police stations on Saturday as part of a coordinated crackdown on drug consumption and possession in public places.
“Strict action will be taken against those found involved in violations of the NDPS Act. Our teams are conducting checks across different areas, and further action will be taken as per the findings of the investigation,” said additional commissioner of police (crime) Tejaswi Satpute.
At Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, police registered two cases. Sahil Sanjay Vairagkar, 20, a resident of Dhankawadi, was allegedly found in possession of six grams of ganja worth ₹1,000 near a public toilet in Gulabnagar, Dhankawadi. Police said he was carrying the substance for personal consumption.
In a separate case, Abhishek Sanjay Bhalerao, 22, a resident of Katraj, was allegedly caught consuming and carrying a small quantity of ganja near a crematorium in the Katraj area. The seized substance was valued at ₹1,000.
At Ambegaon police station, Nikhil Dnyaneshwar Hingne, 24, a resident of Ambegaon Pathar, was allegedly intercepted while procuring and consuming ganja at a secluded spot along the bypass road in Ambegaon Pathar. Police valued the seized ganja at ₹1,000.
At Bibvewadi police station, Prem Chandrakant Shinde, 22, a resident of Upper Indira Nagar, was allegedly found consuming ganja near the Upper Indira Nagar bus stop. Police seized ganja valued at ₹500.
In another case, at Parvati police station, Rohan alias Chhotya Raju Kasbe, 22, a resident of Shivdarshan, was allegedly found in possession of ganja near the Laxminagar canal area during an anti-narcotics patrol. The seized substance was valued at ₹500.
At Kothrud police station, police booked Tejas Vijay Mungase, 21, a resident of Paud Road, after allegedly finding him with small packets of ganja near the Sutardara open grounds. Police said the substance, valued at ₹1,000, was allegedly meant for personal consumption.
At Khadki police station, Salman Latif Shaikh, 28, a resident of Khadki Bazaar, was allegedly caught consuming drugs behind the railway station line in Khadki Bazaar. Police seized a ganja pouch valued at ₹1,000.
At Wanowrie police station, Sameer Altaf Sayyed, 25, a resident of Syed Nagar, was allegedly found in possession of a small quantity of ganja near an open plot in Ramtekdi. The seized pouch was valued at ₹1,000.
Two separate cases were registered at Kharadi police station. Vishal Ashok Pawar, 23, a resident of Chandan Nagar, was allegedly caught consuming ganja near a local drainage line in Kharadi. Police seized a pouch valued at ₹1,000.
In the second case, Rahul Santosh Mane, 26, a resident of Mundhwa, was allegedly found in possession of a ganja pouch near the Zensar IT Park vicinity during patrolling. The seized substance was valued at ₹1,000.
Police said they are verifying the source of the seized contraband.
