Gautam Gambhir has opted out of the Champions League T20 qualifiers to be played in Hyderabad from September 19 to 21.
The Kolkata Knight Riders captain injured his head during the fourth Test against England last month, which ruled him out of the ODI series.
According to a statement from the Kolkata Knight Riders, who have never played in the CLT20, the opener may play if the team qualifies for the main draw beginning on September 25.
South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis will lead the Knight Riders in Gambhir's absence.
