GT vs MI, IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 Highlights: Gill century, Mohit 5-fer lead Titans to 2nd consecutive final

The next ball is creamed through the covers in style. This is the kind of over that GT needed

Half-tracker from Jordan for the second ball of the sixth, Gill nails the pull shot and sends the ball sailing over the leg side boundary.

GT 38/0 in 5 overs. Slightly short from Behrendorff for the last ball of the fifth. Saha swats it past deep square leg. It hasn't been an explosive start from GT and they might feel much more comfortable if this last over of the powerplay goes for a nice double digit score. It is going to be bowled by Chris Jordan though.

Off the very next ball, GT 27/0 in 4 overs. Madhwan goes full outside off, Saha comes down and plays a lofted drive to the boundary.

Skiddy short ball from Madhwal for the fifth ball of the fourth over, that surprised Saha, he was late on the pull and the ball smashes into the helmet. He looks fine but the physio is out to take a look.

Akash Madhwal comes in for the third over, lot of anticipation around the ground now. Saha is on nine off 11, Gill on 11 off 7.

10 runs off the second bowled by Cameron Green. Gill ran a single off the last ball and so he has taken the Orange Cap. He will be keeping it at the end of the season as well unless he gets out right now and Devon Conway scores over 107 runs in the final. Unlikely.

And that takes him to level terms with Faf du Plessis for the Orange Cap this season. Green goes a bit too full on the pads for the fifth ball of the 2nd and Gill rolls his wrist to whip it through square leg.

The pitch is tacky, the surface clearly affected by dampness in these initial overs. Two for Saha and one for Gill.

“We are gonna chase. The pitch looks a little sticky. We can make best use of the pitch. The pitch will get better as the game goes on. It's our comfort, what we want to do. It was only a passing shower, the toss has taken place, Rohit Sharma has won it and Mumbai Indians will field first.

Just drizzling at the moment but there are heavy clouds rolling in. Just six minutes to go for the toss, for now, the players are still out there. No further delays announced yet, let's hope there won't be any. 

Hardik Pandya has marked his run up so we could see him bowl today. Everyone from Sachin Tendulkar to Ashish Nehra seems to have taken a look at the pitch now.

Rain has completely stopped, the field is filled with players and staff which is always a welcome sight as opposed to the deserted, wet look it had just half an hour back. 

Well this was the case before all the rain pelted down but not much would have changed with regards to the pitch. "The dimensions first. We are slightly towards the eastern side, so one side is 63m and 68m on the other side, 74m downtown and some reasonable side pockets as well. There have been runs aplenty on pitch No. 7 - 204 batting first, 207 batting first, 227 batting first in the three games played," said Simon Doull. Matthew Hayden then said: "To me this wicket looks very, very patchy. Earlier in the season there was a lot more grass covering on it. Right now it looks like just rolled in grass which kind of gives the illusion that it is not too bad. Some quality spinners in both games and some upfront bowlers in the powerplay as well. This venue is the top 5 in the list of fours and sixes, but I'm not convinced we will get those big numbers (first innings scores) today. I think it is a 180 wicket at best."

Some more good news, the MI players have walked on to the field, the covers are being removed and Rohit Sharma is now taking a look at the pitch. Rain has completely stopped and the super soppers are hard at work on the outfield.

Umpires will inspect the ground at 7.20pm. The rain has thinned and the super soppers are out. It seems rains have stopped in nearby areas and so it seems things are moving in the right direction. 

Whoa, its just pouring down now and there are puddles being formed on the covers. No one on the field now, not even the groundsmen who normally stand on the periphery sorting something or the other down. This game is getting delayed folks. 

It was initially a thin drizzle but it seems that rain is barreling down at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Covers are firmly in place and the picture looks quite gloomy.

A key element of GT's dominance in the league stage was the way Shami used to dismantle teams in the powerplay. It was also clear in the first Qualifier against CSK that a team who manages to go past the powerplay unscathed do actually stand a good chance at beating the Titans. Unfortunately for MI, their opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have hardly clicked at all. 

Mumbai Indians have played 20 IPL playoff matches. They have won 14 of them and lost six.
